Power System Lab Visit by Dignitaries from Swedish Neutral, Sweden


EPE Department has organized the workshop on Ground Fault Neutralizer in which the speakers from SWEDISH NEUTRAL company Mr. KLAUS WINTER(Chief Executive Officer),
Mr. NIKLAS WINTER (Executive Vice-President) and Mr. VIACHESLAV LEVASHOV(International Sales Coordinator) has delivered the lectures on the Ground Fault Neutralizer its importance and also discussed the operations of Ground Fault Neutralizer with the help of simulation in the software NMTerm developed by the SWEDISH NEUTRAL company. By the end of the workshop Dignitaries has visited our Power System Lab where we have installed the testing kit for Power System Protection and monitoring of Power System. Working of the software was explained by Dr. Isaac R., Mr N B Soni (HOD) and Mr. R M Sharma.
Dignitaries has given their suggestions for improving the testing kit to perform the real time simulations by integrating UPES Power System so that students will understand the critical operation  of Power System Protection and Stability and also assured for providing opportunities to our students to avail internship in their firm.

International Workshop on Ground Fault Neutraliser organised by EPE Department UPES

Department of Electrical Power and Energy has organized a workshop on 
"Ground Fault Neutraliser" from 28th Aug to 30th Aug 2017 in UPES Campus. Key speakers are
1. Mr. Klaus Winter (Chief Executive Officer Swedish Neutral Power Protection)
2. Mr. Niklas Winter (Executive Vice-President Swedish Neutral Power Protection)
3. Mr. Viacheslav Levasho ( International Coordinator Swedish Neutral Power Protection)
 Workshop will be covering the important aspects of the power system protection under which following aspects will be covered like Introduction to Neutral Treatment, Grounding concepts, Resonant Earthing, Ground Fault Neutralizer Review of GFN equipment, GFN Project Specification, GFN Implementation & Commissioning Terminal software of the GFN (NMTerm), Understanding Alarms, Event File and Earth Fault Recordings NET model testing: Demonstration of the various GFN operating schemes.
With the help of this workshop individual will understand the critical issues related to power system protection and learn about the protective devices which has been developed by Swedish Neutral AB, Sweden Company.

‘International Workshop on Smart Grid & e-Vehicles’


Department of Electrical Power & Energy has successfully organized a one week ‘International Workshop on Smart Grid & e-Vehicles’ from August 7 to August 11, 2017. This workshop was organized in association with Consortium for Rapid Smart Grid Impact (CRSGI). CRSGI has been funded by US Fed and UK. 

Following Distinguished speakers  delivered expert lectures and exercised extensive training sessions of the workshop:
    1)    Prof. Athula Kulatunga, Professor & Head, Engineering & Technology, Purdue University, USA
    2)      Prof. Dionizio Paschoareli Jr., Head-Electrical Engineering, University of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
    3)      Prof. Sudheera Navaratne, Electrical Engineering, Peradeniya University, Sri Lanka.

Prof. Yogesh Gupta & Prof. Ram K Shivpuri also delivered expert talks on the topics associated with the workshop.
 The Inauguration Ceremony was conducted on August 08, 2017 at MDC. Prof. K. Raghavan proceeded with the session and Prof. Suresh Kumar, Director, CoES ( Core Engineering) Presided the event.
 With around 30+ students and Seven faculty members attending the event, majority of the sessions were conducted with hands on experience on the software ‘Powerfactory’
 In this workshop students and faculty has taken  resolution for Energizing rural areas of Uttarakhand which are deprived of Energy by installing various renewable energy sources.

World Biofuel Day was celebreated at Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun



World Biofuel Day Celebration at
 Indian Institute of Petroleum, CSIR, Dehradun
On 10th August, 2017, 2017-2019 batch students pursuing M. Tech Renewable Energy and Energy Systems and B Tech Chemical Engineering at UPES, Dehradun were invited to attend the yearly celebrations of ‘World Bio-fuel Day’ at the Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun. Students from various other colleges and schools around Dehradun participated in the event.
Eminent guest for the event was Professor K.P. Singh, Vice Chancellor, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. Professor Singh spoke about the need to develop techniques and ideas for a future without reliance on crude oil. He stressed on bio-fuels as the fuel for the future generation. Professor Singh’s inspirational talks also centered on the ability and capabilities of the youth of today, as the drivers for innovation.

Followed by Professor Singh, there were presentations made by distinguished scientist at the IIP presented on-going project on bio-fuels. Bio-jet, a commercial venture at IIP for supply of jet fuel extracted from Jatropha seeds was one of the presentations. The other presentation by Dr. Neeraj Pandey mentioned the conventional techniques and recent developments on extraction methods of oil from biomass majorly done at IIP.
Followed by the event, which culminated at 4pm, we were taken on a tour of the IIP campus with visits to their various laboratories and workshops. Few are mentioned below:
1)      Pilot plant for Hydro processing of bio mass.
2)      Lab for Lubricant separation and Algae research
3)      Lab for Bio-fuel analysis
4)      Genetic lab for gene Over expression

Workshop on Electric Power System



EPE DEPARTMENT ORGANIZES TWO WEEK WORKSHOP ON ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEM 
IN ASSOCIATION WITH IIT KHARAGPUR
With an aim to enhance the teaching skills of our faculty colleagues in core engineering subjects, Department of Electrical Power & Energy organized a two-week workshop on Electric Power System from July 10 to July 15, 2017. The workshop was conducted as a part of ISTE Short Term Training Programme (STTPs)- a joint venture of IIT Kharagpur & IIT Bombay, under Train Ten Thousand Teachers (T10KT) project using 353 established remote centers across India.

The workshop gave a detailed exposure to Elements of Power System, Importance of Renewables and Importance of ICT in reliable operation of Power System. The teaching faculty- Professor N K Kishore, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, Professor Shreevardhan A Soman, Department of Electrical Engineering, IITBombay and Professor Gautam Bandyopadhyay, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIEST Kolkata gave a comprehensive insight into Identifying as to what Comprises a Power System, Realizing the need for Renewable Energy Sources for Electric Power Supply, Become aware of usefulness of ICT in reliable operation of Electric Power System and be able to carry out all essential analyses necessary to have reliable operation of Electric Power System.
